Play & Early Learning
This category covers products and resources intended for play, creative activities and early learning. Explain what children can do with the product, the age group it is designed for and whether an adult needs to take part.
The application is reviewed online using the materials you submit. Applying is free, and no samples are needed.

What belongs in this category
Examples include toys, games, construction sets, art activities and learning resources. Identify the complete set or edition being submitted, including any parts, printed materials or digital features.
A picture book intended primarily for shared reading belongs in Books & Family Reading. A stand-alone app should normally be submitted in Apps & Parent Resources.
Age guidance and participation
Provide the stated age range, instructions and warnings. Describe any small parts, tools, materials or activities that affect the intended use and adult involvement.
Age guidance should match the product as sold. If a learning claim concerns a particular age group or activity, specify it. Broad claims about intelligence, attainment or developmental outcomes require evidence beyond a description of the activity.
Information to prepare
Include:
- The product name, model, edition and full list of included components.
- Intended age range, participation requirements and use limits.
- Complete play or activity instructions, including setup and cleanup.
- Current packaging, labels and warnings.
- Images that show the actual contents and how components are identified.
- Cleaning, storage or maintenance guidance, where relevant.
- Authorized access to any digital or written content included.
- Evidence for specific educational or performance claims.
Explain what an activity is intended to introduce or practice. Distinguish that purpose from a claim that use produces a measured learning result.
How the information is reviewed
Can a family understand the activity and what participation requires? A game should state its rules and participation requirements; a creative kit should identify its contents and relevant precautions. The intended age range and product description are considered alongside those instructions.
Learning claims are considered against the supporting materials. The review does not include classroom trials or measurements of children’s learning outcomes.
Find a product record
Published records show the recognized product, edition, intended age range and award year. Use the detailed record to check scope; a photograph or category label cannot establish an educational result.
Prepare and submit
Check that the instructions, age guidance and evidence are ready before you apply. Applications are accepted throughout the year, and a complete application normally takes about two months to review after its materials are confirmed as complete.
